Chumby is cut from the same cloth as Nabaztag, the internet rabbit companion that we reported on last weekend.
The rather wacky Chumby web site describes it as below....
"It's compact device that can act like a clock radio, but is way more flexible and fun. It uses the wireless internet connection you already have to fetch cool stuff from the web: music, the latest news, box scores, animations, celebrity gossip...whatever you choose. And a chumby can exchange photos and messages with your friends. Since it's always on, you’ll never miss anything."
You will notice no explicit mention of internet radio. Fear not, as Chumby is designed to be modded, hacked and improved. There is an internet radio module on the way.
If all else fails Chumby is designed to be cuddled. Reports we have read suggests it's hard to put down.
Chumby is still in development, in fact only a couple of hundred prototypes have been made and distributed to the Gods of the tech blogosphere. No, WifiRadioReview is not YET considered to be a deity in those circles. You can see how Engagdet got on with theirs here.
When it does eventually go on sale, the target price point is $150. The basic service is free, and Chumby may add paid premium services over time
